Claremont School

Ed has been involved in secondary education for more than 20 years, initially as a teacher of History and Politics and latterly as a senior leader in leading independent schools in the UK. He graduated from the University of Edinburgh and pursued a Masters in International Studies and Diplomacy at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London. Ed has spent the bulk of his professional life specialising in both Pastoral and Sixth Form education. He has performed roles leading day and boarding communities and designed pastoral systems for a succession of schools including Bedes School and Claremont itself. He joined the Senior School at Claremont in 2013 where he led on the creation of its highly successful Sixth Form offering. Before becoming Principal he was Headteacher of the Senior School. Ed has a deep interest in the possibilities presented by holistic education. Under his leadership Claremont Senior School has won national awards for the Performing Arts, achieved significant sporting success and developed a reputation for outstanding student outcomes and academic achievement. In his spare time, Ed likes to spend his time cooking Indian food, walking his dogs in the Sussex countryside and spending time with his wife and their four children, all of whom have attended Claremont at some point. He has an unusual and enduring obsession with Bruce Springsteen, who he will travel far and wide to see perform. He is a keen cricketer, passionate supporter of Aston Villa FC and, in another life, would have liked to be Indiana Jones.
